Trapped!

There's been an awful lot of snow falling on the East Coast recently.

Yesterday's snowfall was immediately followed by a heavy rain - then the whole lot froze solid.

This evening, we wanted to take a little trip in our snowed-in car.

We got the rather funky giant car-shaped ice sheet off the top all right, but then all four wheels were completely embedded in six inches of solid ice. The wheels would not move at all.

Last winter, after a few minutes digging, we had managed to get out of the snowdrifts every time. But tonight, B manfully shovelled and attacked the ice with picks for about twenty minutes in temperatures of -8'C before we had to admit defeat and straggled back to our flat - walking in the middle of the road, because the pavements are still covered in sheet ice.

But it's still better than constant drizzle in London in February.
