Brainiac Boston
Today was like the first day of spring - warm, sunny, gorgeous. It was impossible to stay indoors, so S took A to the park for a ride in the baby swing.
She wasn't the only one with the idea.
The park was like a miniature Disneyland, with 6 mothers already queueing to use 2 swings.
Once A got to take her turn, S started chatting to the mother next to her. It turned out to be a bit of a classic Boston conversation.
The mother had met her husband at Divinity Graduate School and he was now doing a PhD (which takes about 7 years in the USA) about an obscure fifth century Syriac Christian mystic, who lived in the desert and scribbled on scrolls about the 'deconstruction of the divine order' and 'the un-saying of the self'.
It takes a particular kind of person to study one very specialist topic for 7 years of their life, and with 35 campuses in Greater Boston, the city is full of those kind of people. We love it.
