A friend who's currently expecting her first baby called S today for a chat.

S is housebound at the moment, recovering from mastitis (no doubt triggered by L starting solids so enthusiastically).

S's pregnant friend said, appalled, "Mastitis?! Isn't that what cows get on James Herriot?"

(For the benefit of Americans: James Herriot is a TV drama about rural vets, that everyone our age watched as a child on Sunday nights).

S was obliged to confirm that yes, she had the same condition as a dairy cow.
