Another B

S met up for coffee today with her English friend in Charlestown, who delivered her second baby, a boy called B, just last week.

S's friend looked exceptionally good for someone who has given birth and then been up every night with a yelling newborn.

In fact, she looked great.

S complimented her on this, and was informed that her friend had hired a night-time maternity nurse, and was only breastfeeding in the day - so she and her husband were both getting 8 hours blissful sleep a night!

She seemed very happy, and was really enjoying caring for her babies in the daytime, without feeling irritable and exhausted.

Perhaps that's the way to do things! (Budgetary considerations aside of course!)

Anyway, the new baby was a robust 8lbs - like A's birthweight - but S was astonished how small he seemed. Also, in the entire two hours, he did not open his eyes once.

Evidently, you DO forget.

Night-nurses or not, it is tremendously exciting to think we are going to have another little newborn like this....
