Baby Birthday Party

S has made friends with some mothers in Charlestown (the part of Boston where we live). So, recently, A was invited to her first birthday party.

S escorted her, taking an Elmo baby book as a gift, and expecting maybe a wonky cake and a cup of tea.

However, she had underestimated the American ability to celebrate.

The event featured scores of pink balloons; a mountain of beautifully wrapped and gigantic gifts (....oh dear, ours looked rather puny); a very impressive brunch for the mothers, including pink ribbons tied to each glass; vases of pink roses; a photographer; party hats and goody-bags for all the babies; and a professional 'baby musician' who brought instruments for every child....

A had a great time meeting the other babies and enjoying the music, to the point where she skipped her lunchtime nap for the first time.

The party girl herself had a lovely time too, but when it was time to wear her special hat and blow out the candle on her cake, it was a case of 'It's my party and I'll cry if I want to'.

Awwwww.
