Holiday reviews
We must have spent days and days researching the best place to go for our precious week's holiday.
We checked out, and rejected:
Cape Cod - water too cold
Martha's Vineyard - too expensive
Nantucket - ridiculously expensive - $2,500 cheapest 1 bed cottage for a week!!! Guess that's what you have to pay to hang out with New York bankers and celebrities
Miami - too rainy, too much like LA
Great Lakes - nightmare flights
Canada - boring
Yellowstone National Park - minimum 4 hour drive from airport just to get there
Puerto Rico - only rip-off resorts that charge you $120 per person to meet you at the airport!
Bahamas - too commercialised
Outer Banks, N Carolina - nightmare flights
Bermuda - sounds like miniature Britain with cricket and pubs...
Anyway in the middle of all this craziness, one very useful website we found was Tripadvisor.com, where guests write reviews and publish 'candid photos' of their vacation.
One thing you notice straight away is that some people stay at 5* places and yet find a great deal to complain about, e.g. I saw a cat on the property (yes really), whereas other people stay at 2* places and manage to have a wonderful time.
Anyway they have a blog of all the weirdest and funniest reviews. It's worth a look.
