Horners' Odyssey: Too little water.... then too much

Too little water.... then too much

B has been away for 4 days at a plastic surgery conference in California, leaving S and A to their own devices.

On Thursday we met up with good friend D and his children. The original plan was to go paddling in the Frog Pond, a beautiful shallow pond in the middle of Boston Common.

However there was definitely something wrong with the water supply.

S and A ventured in anyway for an extremely shallow paddle.

A seemed to really enjoy it.

We also spent some time in the adjacent playground. Here's D's take on the outing.

The next day, S's English friend in Charlestown said that her nanny could look after A for a few hours. S dropped A off, and then hit Newbury Street for some essential summer maternity clothes.

Then the two full-time mothers met up for a raucous al fresco lunch at the Armani Cafe - THE spot for poseurs in Boston (although of course, S was observing them in a post-modern, superior-amusement kind of way, rather than actually participating).

At one point, there was a sudden thunderstorm - with torrential downpour.

S and her friend, along with about 40 other people, were sheltered only by small table umbrellas.

Absolutely everyone else leapt up and bolted indoors.

The two Brits instinctively did not move, or even mention the idea, and sat there sipping their drinks, shivering and getting wet, just like something out of Carry On Up The Khyber, while all the American customers boggled at the two crazy ladies through the window.

So THAT's how you build an Empire....

Haha! There's nothing like being abroad to bring out the latent Carry-On movie Brit-ness in all of us ... my accent becomes more plummy and BBC ... and tea and gin take on prime importance ...

PS Love the contrast to your mate's account ... clearly the empire-building spirit is genetic ...
